About the Product
Word of Raisa’s recent excursion to Ghana in the western region of Africa seems to have traveled quickly across the continent to its southernmost ports. In South Africa, in the markets of Pretoria and other cities, adorable dolls that bear a striking resemblance to our lovable Spanish wondergirl can be found. They are made to honor a great communicator with sound judgment. Sound familiar? Like the “Tabby Richmond” rag doll and “Tabby Juliaca” finger puppet, this line of dolls also fits in the satchel that comes with our Explorer Kit. These dolls are a limited find and not regularly stocked. Grab them while you can!
This product is handmade by female artisans near Pretoria, South Africa. They are knitted in cloth and beaded by the southern Ndebele (pronounced Un-DAY-bell-eh) people. They are as colorful as those who make them. Bold motifs and intricate beading have been popular in this region for many generations. Your purchase helps these remarkable women to earn a livelihood. The design reminds us of our lead explorer in our book series, Raisa (a.k.a. “Tabby”).
